I started my career on the graduate scheme – a role that attracted me because of the strength of the brands and the significant investment provided in graduate development. In the first year the scheme gave me extensive insights and experience into how the business operates at our manufacturing sites.
I then secured a role as a project engineer in Harlesden with responsibility for project managing the installation of a £10m packing line, targeted at increasing the manufacturing capability of the factory – one of the largest value projects within the FMCG industry at the time. Although this was a huge responsibility, the business gave me a significant amount of support.
I then moved into an engineering project manager role at our McVitie’s Cake Company site. This was an extremely rewarding position as it provided me with responsibility for the site CAPEX spend and engineering project management team and gave me the chance to influence the future of the site.
I am now the site engineering manager at Halifax with overall responsibility for the engineering function, incorporating site services, project engineering and the engineering managers. This position allows me to influence how the site operates across varying functions and my investment in the site is visible across all levels, which I find hugely rewarding.
I feel extremely fortunate to work for a business like pladis that’s both global and family-owned. It cares about individual employees and gives you lots of opportunities to develop your career. There’s a clear plan for the future of the business and my team and I have clear objectives to help it achieve that plan.
